Balete at risk

The Balate pools are used for bathing and laundry and so are highly eutrophic especially during the dry season. They are filled with clean water only during the rainy season.

Top: The lower pool is used for laundry (note the white color of the water).
Bottom: The upper pool is used for bathing. Notice the bright green color characteristic of algal blooms.
