Ex-HEdCenites Doing Well In Brisbane
Remember Austin and Allen Mamawal?
These former HEdCenites migrated earlier this year to Brisbane, Australia. Their dad, Dr. Victor Albert Mamawal (who used to practice at the Medical City clinic in Antipolo), likes to keep up with what’s happening at HEdCen with frequent visits to our site. He sent the following email (together with pictures, some of which are shown here) on how his sons are doing in their new school:
We arrived in Brisbane Australia July 23, 2007. That was Monday. By Thursday the kids were popped into Mount Gravatt State school. Their school year starts January and has 2 week breaks every 3 months. No “summer” break because their summer is actually in December, so “summer” and Christmas is combined and so it is also end of the school year. July is at the end of winter so it was pretty cold by Philippine standards.
Allen comments that the subjects here are very basic compared to the Hedcen program. He complains that the Math and science programs are “too easy”. But there is a problem area for him. Aussies love to discuss and debate, and being the shy, quiet type he is, everyone thought it was the language barrier. Last September he was awarded a certificate in excellence in Science. Not bad for a newbie.
Austin took to the new school like a duck to water. He spent his first 3 months accelerated to Grade 3-4. He was Grade 3 in Hedcen last June. Next January he is going to be in Grade 5 level.
Give my thanks to Hedcen for a job well done.
It looks like the Mamawals are doing pretty well Down Under. Way to go mates!
