After Ondoy

We’ve seen and suffered from the havoc wrought by Ondoy and the damages of its aftermath. Hundreds of lives lost, thousands of homes destroyed, hundreds of thousands of families displaced and despairing. We now know what a month’s worth of rain falling in under six hours can do - the unimaginable.

We’ve watched and read about acts of heroism, big and small. We’ve marveled at individual and collective efforts to bring aid, relief and, most importantly, hope. We now know that we too can perform such deeds, whether unbidden or inspired by others, and even if we ourselves are hurting as well.

Classes resume today; we start the trek back to normalcy. Piecing our lives back together isn’t going to be easy, to say the least.

Let’s continue helping the affected families and communities.

P.S. The sun’s just come out as I’m finishing this. That’s good, isn’t it?
Peace and warmth to us all.
