Girls ‘94 Rule Xavier Cup 2009
13 December 2009, Xavier School Greenhills. HEdCen Redwoods Girls 1994 blanked ICA, 3-0, in the finals to capture the gold in their age bracket at the Xavier Cup. The only team on the distaff side fielded by HEdCen – with some members actually as young as born 1998 – gave the school its brightest finish in the 2009 edition of the competition.
(Forward Julie Anne rushes past two ICA defenders to score.)
(Midfielder Jasmine prepares to apply a first touch.)
(Marsha and several boys from the ‘94 team watch as central defender Riana lofts the ball forward.)
(With Denise providing back-up offense, chief striker/top scorer and alternate GK Mary takes a free kick against the Westfields wall.)
(HEdCen boys ‘94 defense thwarts a Southridge on-goal attempt.)
The HEdCen boys in the same age bracket (but composed mostly of born 1995 and 1996 players) finished second, losing on PKs to Southridge after a scoreless draw in regulation, while the 1997 team, despite topping the eliminations with an unblemished record, got knocked out in the quarter-finals by Nomads FC 2-1.
(Kaze and Marky scramble to retake possession for the HEdCen 1997 boys.)
(1999’s Joshua and Kyle make a combined effort in midfield.)
The rest of the younger boys teams didn’t fare too well on the second day of the Cup, but it still was great fun watching them compete.
Ahhh, win or lose, I just loooove football!!!

It’s been nice to see all kids playing football once again esp the little ones (2003-2005 boys).
Appreciate also HEdCen Coaches for letting my 2 kids (Miggy and Marky) play recently in Xavier Soccer Cup. It’s been nice to see them play and to be with their former teammates.
Hep Hep Huray for HEdCen!!!!
Thanks again.

@Archie: Yup, it was wonderful having Miggy and Marky back!
@Vinz: Let me check with Coach Juaqui if he can help out; he had his camera too. (My basic problem is even with my camera ready, I get so caught up in the games I forget to take photos, especially during the crucial action-packed moments! Either that or I’m too nervous or excited to manually focus properly I end up taking blurred ones!) Ciao Vinz!

Mr. Santos, I have the same trouble too. I tell myself why I even bother bringing my camera if I can’t take a good number of decent shots. I only take shots when the team is way ahead of the opponent. But I do have some shots…I’ll post them soon! Thanks! Great pix!
