Our Third Home

Allow us to take you on a brief overview of our website. Discover why we have christened it Our Third Home.

For us parents, choosing a school for our children ranks among the most important decisions we can ever make. We entrust our loved ones to the care and guidance of an institution that assumes the obligation of giving them a formal education, with the same degree of responsibility for them as a substitute parent would. (In law, this is known as in loco parentis, which is Latin for “to act in the place of a parent.”)

We’ve been fortunate to find this hidden gem in our search. HEdCen, a non-traditional center for education espousing “Better People, Better Earth” that Butch Dalisay aptly described as “part classroom, part garden, part zoo, and part laboratory, … catering to a small community (or a large family),” is our second home of choice.

With HEdCen as our second home, we invite you to consider HEdCen.com as yet another haven, our own niche in the Word Wide Web with a clear purpose: Should we opt to get connected to the internet, we do so as a means of enriching our life experience.

Hence, this website. Constructing it was a cinch and a challenge. All we had to do was to copy what the school has done for all of us. Make the site as progressive and intimate a community as the HEdCen nestled in the hills of Taytay. In the somewhat daunting expanse of cyberspace, we have created Our Third Home.

For parents, the benefits are invaluable. This is another way to increase our contact and communicate with our kids, the teachers and the school. Whether we’re at home or away at work, the fact is we are physically separated from our children the majority of the waking hours of the day. In this era of double income families, we’re the ones with the least face-to-face time with our kids on weekdays, and we try to compensate in some manner (e.g., phone calls, going out on weekends, and so on). With HEdCen.com, we’ve added e-mailing, IM (Instant Messenger) and blogging to expand opportunities for interacting with them.

The advantages for integrating the internet in our children’s education are similarly obvious. With HEdCen.com, we have a launch site for learning with them the wonders and dangers of a medium that’s here to stay. As Webmissy says, the World Wide Web can be both a training ground and a fun playground for students, teachers and parents alike.

As an online service emulating the ideals of the school, HEdcen.com aims to help members of the HEdCen community:

• Become responsible Netizens.

• Learn the rules of internet safety.

• Develop internet skills for educational and social purposes.

HEdcen.com features, among other things:

➔ Latest school news, including a calendar of school activities

➔ Blogs of students, teachers and parents

➔ Photo galleries of events and activities

➔ E-mail, chat and instant messaging services

➔ A professional directory for parents

➔ Downloadable forms

We’ve noted before that there are people who care and strive to make online existence a humanizing experience. We wish to be counted among them.

Welcome to HEdCen.com a.k.a. Our Third Home. Let’s all make it a joyous place to be in.
