Futsal in Libis
Just a few hours ago, I played futsal in Club 650. With me were Reginald, Kevin, Sam, Nino, and Coach Bernard. We were there early so our team started playing against my old teamates from UP. Ariel Zerrudo, one of the best strikers of the Philippines was on our side since Coach Bernard and Nino arrived later.
I was a little nervous with how my boys would perform against my old buddies. But a few minutes from the start, I knew we had game as Reginald scored a couple of goals and made good passes with Kevin and Ariel.
Though Kevin was the smallest guy on the court, he functioned well with the team making good crosses, one of which was an assist to Reginald.
Sam was nervous at the beginning but he adjusted soon enough to make a lot of good saves against the opposing team. When it was our turn to rest, Sam played with the other teams as goalie and did very well.
In our next game, it was Coach Bernard and Reginald in front. Nino and I were the defenders. Again, we did very well outplaying our opponents and beating them by a couple of goals in ten minutes. Our strategy was very simple and very effective. We had so many more chances to score but our finishing was terrible.
After that game, we went against another team, most of which were former La Salle players. They liked to rotate a lot and do wall passes left and right. We beat their passing at the start getting many scoring opportunities on counterattacks but fatigue caused us to loosen our defense and we could not keep up with their fast play. if it weren’t for Sam, we would have been buried by 5 goals.
This event was a good experience for the highschoolers. Their skills will develop from this activity if they train consistently and the confidence they gain will help them in the highschool division of the RIFA tournament.
I am looking forward to our next training on Tuesday.
